The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emerged dominant in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Electoral Commission declared John Dramani Mahama the winner of the presidential elections with over 1.6 million votes. So far, the NDC has secured over 180 parliamentary seats, compared to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has a little over 75 seats.
The NDC caucus has also made significant strides in advancing women’s representation in the just-ended parliamentary election. The party will now have an impressive roster of 37 female legislators compared to the 20 they had in the 8th parliament. These women represent diverse constituencies across the country.
This development presents an opportunity to ensure gender inclusivity in decision-making processes that shape the nation’s future. With this record number of female MPs, the NDC is paving the way for more women to break barriers in political leadership.
