Jonas Adjetey has made a strong first impression at VfL Wolfsburg, with head coach Daniel Bauer highlighting the new central defender’s attitude and rapid adaptation in his first days at the club.
Signed from FC Basel for around 10 million euros on a contract running until 2030, the 22-year-old Ghana international has already stood out in training for being open-minded and eager to learn.
“Jonas has presented himself very well in training,” Bauer explained, noting that both Adjetey and fellow newcomer Jeanuël Belocian quickly absorbed the tactical instructions from team meetings and carried them out on the pitch.
Wolfsburg’s current situation in central defence is tense, with Jenson Seelt still injured and Moritz Jenz suspended, leaving Bauer with limited options.
Konstantinos Koulierakis and Denis Vavro are considered the first-choice pairing for now, but Adjetey is viewed as the primary alternative and could soon push his way into the starting XI. Even so, Bauer remains cautious, stressing that central defence is a “sensitive position” where communication and automatic movements are crucial, and that integrating a centre-back is usually more complex than bringing in a full-back.
A final decision on Adjetey’s involvement will be taken after the last training session.
