The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, identified as Eric Mante, for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son at North Legon in Accra.
According to a statement posted on the official X handle of the Ghana Police Service, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on May 3, 2026, after the teenager had gone out to play football with friends.
The suspect reportedly confronted the boy and, in a fit of anger, allegedly tied him to a quad motorbike and sped off.
The Police statement further disclosed that the victim fell onto a tarred road near Adonai Church and was allegedly dragged along the surface, sustaining multiple injuries in the process.
The victim’s screams attracted nearby residents, who intervened and stopped the suspect from allegedly causing further harm.
The injured teenager was rushed to Legon Hospital for treatment, while the suspect was subsequently arrested by the Police.
According to the statement, the suspect admitted to the act during investigations and claimed he acted out of anger over the boy’s behaviour.
He has since been charged and arraigned before court.
The Accra Regional Police Command condemned all forms of violence against children and urged parents and guardians to adopt lawful and non-violent methods of disciplining children.
The Command also encouraged the public to promptly report cases of abuse to the Police or other relevant authorities.
