The Paramount Chief of Tepa Traditional Area, Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem I, has frowned on “acts of violence, vandalism and reported cases of arson” that ensued after last Saturday’s elections.
He has called for peace and stability following a series of sporadic attacks in response to “disputed election results”, leading to widespread damages to both public and private property, in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
Tepa Senior High School, where ballot materials used in the December 7 elections were stored, was a focal point of the violence.
Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem I, addressing the soaring unrest in the community at a press conference on Monday, disclosed that he had never witnessed such “anarchy” in the area in his 25 years reign and advised his people not to put the law in their own hands.
He reminded them that the security agencies had the responsibility of maintaining peace and order and that whoever is found culpable, will be handed over to law enforcement agencies, regardless of the person’s status in the community.
He condemned the ensuing mayhem, which had brought the name of the community in disrepute.
Nana Ampem I assured that the Law Enforcement Agencies are working tirelessly to ensure that “peace and stability” are restored, while steps are being taken by his elders, Authorities and himself, to assess the magnitude of damage for necessary action by the appropriate authorities.
Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem I assured natives of Tepa in the Diaspora that his palace, where the press conference was held, had not been attacked or touched and should disregard the fake news that his palace had been set ablaze.
