Welcome to 3News.com’s comprehensive live blog coverage of Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
As the country gears up for this special day, all eyes will be on the Electoral Commission’s (EC) preparation to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
An estimated 18,774,159 registered voters will be heading to 40,976 polling stations across the country to cast their votes. Voters will elect a President and 275 Members of Parliament to steer the country’s governance for the next four years.
This election promises to be one of the most closely watched in recent years and Ghana’s democracy, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most stable, will undergo another litmus test.
In the presidential race, the main contenders include:
- The Incumbent – Representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who aims to continue the party’s policies and promises of economic transformation.
- The Former President – From the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, who is also seeking a return to power with a focus on inclusivity and infrastructure development.
- The Defector – Alan Kyeremanten, a long-time presidential aspirant and former member of the ruling NPP. He broke off after he was not given the nod to keep the presidential candidate of the party.
- The New Kid on The Block – Nana Kwame Bediako, a real estate developer and general businessman with big ideas for the “the youth” and a new force in Ghana.
- Other Aspirants – Smaller parties and independent candidates, offering alternative visions for Ghana’s future.
The Electoral Commission has assured Ghanaians of its readiness, stating that all necessary election materials have been distributed, and contingency plans are in place to address any challenges that may arise.
Security forces have also been deployed nationwide to maintain order and safeguard the process.
