The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MFARI) has organised a sports and cultural event dubbed ‘day with the diplomatic community’ at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp in Accra.
The event was aimed at fostering community spirit and friendship among staff of the ministry and families of the diplomatic community through sports and cultural activities.
Staff of the ministry and families of the diplomatic community engaged in sporting activities such as football, basketball, penalty kicks, sack race, lime and spoon, and also 100 metre race while their children also participated in musical chairs, face painting and a dance competition.
Earlier, they engaged in an aerobic session led by instructors from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), who also officiated the various sporting disciplines the participants engaged in.
For the cultural event, they displayed dishes from various countries for the guests to taste.
There was also a karaoke session where music from each country was played for members to sing along.
The Chief Director of the MFARI, Mr Ramses Cleland, said the Ministry believed that culture helps in connecting people across borders.
Mr Cleland said “Ghana was particularly lucky to be home to a diplomatic community who enrich our country’s experience by embracing our unique cultures, while sharing their countries music, art, food, language, culture and sports with us through various channels.”
The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr Maher Kheir, said the event would promote community spirit, strengthen cooperation and also tighten friendships between the people and countries.
Mr Kheir, who is also the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affair and Regional Integration for the initiative and called for closer coordination and cooperation between the countries.
