Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu Saturday called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to be transparent in handling the electoral processes to the December polls and beyond.
He stated that “this will help consolidate the peace we are all yearning for.”
Mr. Agbodza made the call at the Bliza (Corn festival) durbar of the chiefs and people of Adaklu Kodzobi in the Adaklu district.
The festival was instituted in 1983 after that year’s drought and famine to honour corn for being the first foodstuff that ended the famine and thank God for his mercies.
The festival has since been repackaged to unite the people and raise funds for the community’s development and has become one of the leading festivals in the Volta region.
This year’s festival was on the theme “Peace, Love and Unity: Bedrock of comprehensive development.”
Mr. Agbodza called on the people to do away with their political affiliation and join hands to develop Adaklu, saying “without Adaklu there will be no NDC or NPP.”
He praised the people of the community for the numerous self-help projects they have undertaken and urged other communities to emulate their shining example.
Mr. Agbodza who said he was now the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament appealed to the Police to be very professional in performing their duties during and after the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mr. Bright Nyatsikor, the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for Adaklu told the people that the forthcoming general elections should not be seen as a win at all costs but “whoever wins is a win for Ghana.”
He reiterated the need for all political actors to be civil in their campaign messages devoid of mudslinging, insults, and personal attacks.
“Let us tell the people what we can do to transform the economy of the country and help create jobs especially for the youth,” he noted.
Togbe Dzegblade IV, chief of the community who based his welcoming address on Habakkuk chapter two advised his people not do anything that would attract the wrath of God.
He encouraged them to invest the little that they have in the education of their children.
Mr. Matthew Wormenor, the Bliza Planning Committee Chairman said funds raised at the durbar would be used to complete their one-storey building information centre.
A number of people the Ghana News Agency talked to lament the absence of the Regional Minister and the Adaklu District Chief Executive at the durbar.
