WAEC denies December 29 results release date: “Minister’s claim factually incorrect”

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has refuted claims circulating online that the results for the recently concluded exams will be released on December 29th.

In an interview on Starr FM, John Kapi, WAEC’s Director of Public Affairs, firmly stated that this information is “factually incorrect.”

“…The Minister came there; he was taken around by the head of the office, shown the broken-down machines and the ones that were working but not at full capacity because they were not fully fixed. He was also shown the heap of objective answer cards waiting to be scanned, and then he stepped out.

“There was no formal meeting like, ‘Okay, let’s sit down and discuss the way forward. What do we do? When are they going to fix the machines? When will you be able to complete this?’ Nothing of that sort happened.

“Then he [Education Minister, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum] stepped out, spoke to the media, and told them that we [WAEC] said we would release the results by the 28th or 29th of December at the latest. However, WAEC has not issued any statement to that effect, and so that is factually incorrect,” John Kapi fumed.

Mr John Kapi further described the misrepresentation and the information given out by the Minister as scandalous.

The interview comes amidst confusion and anxiety among students and parents in Ghana eagerly awaiting their exam results. The unconfirmed December 29th date had been circulating online, causing unnecessary stress.

Mr. Kapi urged the public to rely only on official communication channels from WAEC for accurate information regarding exam results.

While no official release date has been announced yet, students and parents can expect WAEC to announce the official results date through their website (https://waecgh.org/) and official social media channels.
