Canadian-Ghanaian midfielder Stephen Afrifa came off the bench to make a decisive impact as Sporting Kansas City earned a hard-fought 2â1 away win over LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.
Introduced in the 71st minute, Afrifa needed barely three minutes to leave his mark.
Already leading 1â0 thanks to Dejan Joveljic’s first-half strike, Sporting doubled their advantage on 74 minutes. Afrifa broke down the left and picked out Lasse Berg Johnsen with a precise low pass across the box, and the midfielder coolly finished to make it 2â0, with FotMob crediting Afrifa for the assist.
Galaxy hit back through Marco Reus in the 82nd minute to set up a tense finish, but Sporting held firm to claim the victory.
Afrifa’s creative cameo takes his early-season tally to 3 appearances and 1 assist in the 2026 Major League Soccer season.
Sporting Kansas City will hope he can build on this performance when they return home to face Colorado Rapids in their next MLS fixture on Sunday, March 22.
