Thomas Partey has expressed disappointment after Villarreal's humiliating defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Spanish outfit were hammered 4-0 at the Signal Iduna Park, with Guinean forward Serhou Guirassy scoring a brace to add to strikes from Karim Adeyemi and Daniel Svensson.
Villarreal played most of the second half with a man down after Juan Foyth was controversially sent off.
"We knew it was going to be a difficult game where little details decide these games. We had many opportunities to get ahead. At the end of the first half, we conceded a corner that we didn't defend well. The game has changed. I'm happy because we showed our face," said Partey after the game.
Partey also lamented on some of the decisions in the game that did not go their way despite VAR intervention.
"I had it in my hands, but I don't know what decided. We consider the machine, but the result did not accompany us,” he added.
"These are details that can change a game for you and today it all went against us. We have to keep learning because the season is long. We have to improve. To play with the best we have to be better," Partey stressed. "I don't know what they decided. It's a learning experience for us."
The defeat leaves Villarreal 34th on the table after five games.
