Kwamang (E/R), June 19, GNA - The X'tra Gold Mines Limited, a gold mining company at Kwamang has provided mechanized boreholes for communities in their catchment area to help reduce the problem of portable water in the communities where the company operates.
The beneficiary communities are Muaso, Banso, Pameng and Akukusu.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kwamang in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region, Mr William Asiedu, the Administrator for the Company, said the effort was to help end the perennial water challenges that most communities in their catchment area faced.
He said it was the intention of the company to provide health, education and sanitation facilities for the various communities to ensure an improvement in the standard of living of the people.
Mr Asiedu said the communities for years had no access to portable water which made life unbearable for them especially during the harmattan season.
He said the company had also been providing educational support to inhabitants who were willing to further their education at the various levels of education.
Mr Asiedu said his outfit had constructed and handed over two CHPS compound to Pameng and Boma communities to help end the stress that many people in their catchment area underwent to access quality healthcare delivery.
He said they had also constructed palaces for the traditional leaders at Apagyatia, Muaso and Banso to help create an enabling environment for the Chiefs and their elders.
Mr Asiedu therefore expressed worry at the frequent attacks by the youth in the area on the facilities of the company and said such attacks hindered their operations.
He called on the various traditional leaders to handle the situation amicably to help maintain peace and harmony in the area.
