Accra, June 11, GNA - The Management of Passion for Needy, an NGO, has donated assorted items to the Street Academy in Accra.

The items included bags of rice, maize, sugar, soft drinks, tin tomatoes, and 25 litres of cooking oil.

Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, the Chairperson for the Organisation, said the exercise was to mark the birthday of Prophet T.B. Joshua, Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations and also to mark the 10th anniversary of the organization in Ghana.

She said one of the goals of the organisation was to complement government’s effort in various sectors to enhance development.

"Within the past 10 years, we have tried to achieve that objective by identifying various government institutions that provide services to alleviate poverty in society," she added.

Mrs El-Aschkar said the organisation had been working with government institutions such as the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, the South La Boys and Girls Correctional Centre, among others.

She called on other NGOs to identify other areas to contribute their quota to complement government effort in the development process.

She said the organisation would continue to support the vulnerable in society to put smiles on their faces.

Mr Atta Lartey, the Executive Director of Street Academy, thanked the organisation for the gesture and pledged to use the items to the benefits of the children.

He said the Academy supported children on the street who had no education.

The Academy trained the children from age 10 to 16 and integrated them into the public schools, depending on their level of reading and writing, while others were sent to the arts and vocational institute depending on their interests in the field.

Nii Afotey Botchwey II, a Divisional Chief in Nungua, who graced the event appealed to corporate bodies to factor the Academy in the Corporate Social Responsibility programmes and assist them achieve their mandates.

The school children were served with a meal while members of the organization interacted with them.
