Accra, March 28. GNA - Decathlon Ghana, a leading French Sports equipment and sportswear company, has donated various sporting items to the Astro Football Academy.
The donation forms part of efforts to support the Academy in their fundraising efforts.
The event, which was held at the Lord of the Wings Restaurant at East Legon, saw some of the items autographed by former Black Stars player Abedi Pele, which was auctioned to raise funds.
Raffles were also conducted at the event with the invited guests winning sporting materials including footballs, boots, drinking flasks, and jerseys.
Madam Wesam Moussallem, the CEO of the Academy, in an interview with GNA Sports, said her outfit is committed to offering young talents the opportunity to realise their aspirations.
She said the Academy was established five years ago, located at Dzorwulu, a suburb of Accra was housing 200 players, assisted by five coaches, with the cost feeding, medicals and education being catered for by the institution.
She expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for their immense contribution towards the progress of the Academy and appealed to corporate entities to come on board to support their efforts.
Madam Moussallem hinted that there would be a tournament in May with European scouts present.
According to her, it will present young footballers the opportunity to exhibit their skills to earn contracts with foreign clubs.
Mr Kwasi Tabury, the Country Manager of Decathlon Ghana, said his partnership with Astro Football Academy was to make the pleasure and benefits of sport accessible to everybody.
“We just want to see sport everywhere, in every corner of Accra to start. making sports accessible and affordable to every person irrespective age, sex or creed is what Decathlon stands for.

Decathlon Ghana have over 3,000 products across 40 disciplines ranging from football, basketball, swimming and cycling; to lesser known sports such as archery, hiking, kayaking and so on.
