Osagyefo Leadership International School (OLIS) at Labone in Accra, as part of activities to mark the upcoming 10th anniversary in December this year has organised a health walk and cleanup exercise to promote physical fitness and well-being of pupils, staff and management.
It followed up with a cleanup exercise to crate the awareness of a clean environment on the theme: 'Raising Patriotic and Ethical Leaders for Ghana through Quality Basic Education.'
The events were participated by management, Board, proprietor, parents, staff, pupils and non teaching staff of the school.
As an integral part of the event, there was the community service aspects which offered the school's social responsibility to the community and also instil leadership virtues and values of community service in the pupils.
Following the health walk was the community service which was made to coincide with the National Sanitation Day during which the school desilted choked gutters, weeded, and cleared rubbish at the La Maame terminal around Labone.
Addressing the participants after the three-hour walk and cleanup exercise, the Proprietor and the Board chairman of the school, Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim lauded the initiative of the headmaster, participants and friends of the school, who took part in the events.
He encouraged the pupils to exhibit such qualities of leadership and always nurture a sense of service to humanity so as to demonstrate leadership qualities wherever they found themselves.
Seth Korgah, the headmaster of the school, noted that "the events are integral part of the schools co-curricular activity intended to teach the children national values and principles such as environmental cleanliness and the spirit of community service."
He advised participants to continue the good work in their homes, workplace to ensure good health and extend the virtues of cleanliness to their neighbours.
Peter Boakye Oduro, the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association of the school, said the exercise would inculcate the values and virtues of environmental discipline in children to grow with it.
"Members of the communities owe it a duty to contribute their quota to sustain the environment and to pass on the legacy to our children, parents must be involved because they live with their children and their participation will set a good example for them.
