The Ghana Football Association has expressed full confidence in the Black Queens as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, backing the team to achieve success and bring pride to the nation.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum outlined the team's clear ambition for the tournament in Morocco, stating they aim to both qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup and compete for the continental title.
"We've got two things on our mind going into this tournament," Asante Twum said. "First, we want to qualify for the World Cup. Then, we also want to fight for the title."
The Black Queens will face a tough test in Group A, drawn against Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde. However, the GFA is optimistic, pointing to the team's bronze-medal finish at the last edition as a foundation for progress.
"We came very, very close," Asante Twum said of the previous campaign. "Within a year, we believe we should be able to go a step further. But it will be one step at a time."
Asante Twum acknowledged the challenge of the group but highlighted the team's preparedness and the impact of sustained investment in women's football. "We are in a very tight group with teams we have faced before. We know what they bring to the table, and we are well prepared for the challenge," he noted.
The GFA has pledged its full support to the squad, vowing to provide all necessary resources to help them achieve their historic goals. "We will leave no stone unturned. We will continue to invest, motivate and push these players to go all the way," Asante Twum stressed. "We believe that when the tournament comes, the girls will make Ghanaians proud."
