A Member of the Ashanti Regional Communications Team of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dennis Kwakwa has showered praises on the governing board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and government for being proactive by revoking licenses of UT and Capital Banks.
The Aspiring Regional Youth Organiser of the party said the Akufo-Addo’s government and BoG were trying to prevent an occurrence of what happened to DKM customers where their monies were swindled.
According to him, lots of Ghanaians would have suffered the same fate if BoG had not intervened.
Some customers of the two banks have kicked against the decision to allow the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) take over, threatening to withdraw their monies.
He believes the two banks could have collapsed without customers getting their investments.
Speaking with Ultimatefmonline.com, Mr Kwakwa said, ‘I take this opportunity to commend the Bank of Ghana, its governing board and the government of this country for taking such a proactive measure. I believe it has been a proactive measure in the sense that these two banks could have collapsed when the deposits of these customers unpaid for.
‘I commend the GCB board for also taking on this risk to make sure that ordinary Ghanaians who have struggled to deposit some few cedis did not suffer the fate of the DKM customers,‘ he said.
He urged the government to be proactive in ensuring that economic fundamentals which are good for governance continue to move on.
‘What I want to tell government is to continue to be proactive in making sure that the economic fundamentals which are the basis for good governance continue to move in the tangent that is moving. It is the only way that this economy could be built for government to achieve all the promises that it promised in its manifesto,’ he stated.
