The Regional Minister and also incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo North Constituency, Evans Opoku Bobie, has retained his seat as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, while the delegates in Asutifi North have kicked out the incumbent, Joseph Dahan.
These were announced by officials of the Electoral Commission in the Asunafo North and Asutifi North constituencies, as the NPP held its parliamentary primaries nationwide for the general elections on 7th December, this year.
Evans Opoku Bobie, who was in contest with Paul Gyan and Farouk Nkrumah in the Asunafo North Constituency where 822 delegates were expected to decide, secured 675 votes, representing 82.1%, while Paul Gyan recorded 12 votes, and Farouk Nkrumah 122.
The constituency, where the regional capital (Goaso) is located, has 30 zones or electoral areas.
Elsewhere in the Asutifi North Constituency, the delegates have voted against the incumbent MP, Joseph Dahan, who was seeking to lead the party for the third time.
He placed second to Mr. Patrick Banor with 161 votes, 34.1 percent, while the newly elected parliamentary candidate recorded 189 votes, representing 40.1%. Others in the contest were Stephen Kukuo (78 votes), and William Frimpong-Bonsu (41 votes).
Mr. Patrick Banor is to battle the parliamentary candidates of other political parties in the December 7, general elections.
The elections at the two constituencies began at exactly 7am and closed at 1pm for sorting, counting, announcing and declarations, saw security personnel present to maintain peace and order.
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) safety protocols were highly adhered to during voting, but immediately sorting, counting, announcing and declaring began, the social distancing protocol was highly defeated by the ‘fired-up’ delegates and supporters of Mr. Patrick Banor, who could not hold back their excitement.
