Black Stars head of medical team, Dr. Prince Pambo has described the tournament-ending injury to playmaker Mohammed Kudus as a "devastating" reality for the nation ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with journalist Kafui Dey, Dr. Pambo emphasized that losing a player of Kudus’s global stature right before football's biggest stage is the ultimate nightmare for any national medical department.
“So, head of medical, the last thing you want to hear is an injury to any of your players. Kudus is a very significant member of world football.
“If the world is supposed to name 20 players they want to see at that stage, Mohammed would be one of them. So for a country like Ghana to hear that such a player is picking up an injury around this time, it was quite devastating.
The 25-year-old attacker was left out of Ghana’s provisional 28-man World Cup roster following a severe quadriceps tendon injury relapse.
After initially sustaining the injury in January, Kudus suffered a major setback upon returning to team training at his club, which ultimately required advanced specialist evaluation and potential surgery.
For a country like Ghana, building its tournament strategy around such a pivotal creative force, Dr. Pambo admitted that confirming the finality of the injury "around this time" was an incredibly bitter and devastating blow to absorb.
