Ghana coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says his Black Starlets are mentally ready and highly driven as they kick off their TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 campaign against Algeria on Thursday.
The two-time African champions return to the tournament with big expectations, having impressed in the WAFU B qualifiers before losing the final to Côte d’Ivoire on penalties.
“The mood in camp is very positive and focused. The players understand the importance of representing Ghana at this level and they have shown great commitment throughout our preparations. We have worked very hard physically, tactically and mentally, and I believe the team is ready to compete. The boys are motivated and eager to make Ghana proud in our opening game against Algeria,” Ogum told CAFOnline.com.
Drawn in a tough Group D with defending champions Senegal, hosts Algeria and South Africa, Ghana face a demanding path as they chase a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026. Yet Ogum remains confident, stressing this group has the talent, discipline and mentality to match Africa’s best and, above all, “create its own history” while honouring Ghana’s rich youth football legacy.
