Interim Asante Kotoko Prince Yaw Owusu has downplayed any sense of pressure surrounding his role, insisting he remains calm and focused in his quest to finish the current campaign on a good note.
The former Okwawu United tactician was named caretaker manager in early February following the resignation of Karim Zito. Since taking charge of the team, Prince Owusu has steered Kotoko to two wins, two defeats and one draw.
The Porcupine Warriors returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over local rivals Nations FC in a tense week 26 clash, held at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
“It would be untrue to say I’m under pressure. I’m completely relaxed. No one knows what tomorrow holds. If I continue winning and I’m asked to stay on, then so be it. I’m not putting myself under pressure by overthinking the job.”
Quizzed if recent results are proper justification to earning him the job, he said, “Exactly, that’s what it means, and I won’t shy away from it. Players I coached out there believe in me and trust that I can get the job done. I’m determined to prove my worth to the team”
Kotoko made a strong start and took the lead in the 23rd minute when Albert Amoah rose highest to head home the opener, giving the hosts a deserved advantage at the break.
Goals from captain Samba O’Neil and Nigerian import Morifing Donzo in the final ten minutes of the match cemented victory for the home team.
The result lifts Kotoko into third place, now six points behind new league leaders Bibiani GoldStars, boosting their hopes of mounting a late title challenge with eight matches remaining.
