Former Hearts of Oak board secretary Ernest Thompson has questioned the club’s current recruitment strategy, insisting it does not reflect the club’s stature or ambitions.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Thompson said Hearts should be signing top-quality players capable of delivering silverware, rather than relying heavily on lower-tier or unproven talents.
"Hearts of Oak is like a Real Madrid. It’s not a team you go all the way down to pick journeymen to come and play. You can pick a few from below, but you need to invest in key players," he said.
"When push comes to shove, you must have players like Ishmael Addo, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, and Charles Taylor who can change games. You don’t see that in the current team."
Thompson, who was part of the club’s leadership during its golden era that produced the 2000 CAF Champions League triumph, stressed that recruitment must be guided by honest and competent advisors.
"If you don’t have the right people advising you, you’ll waste money signing players who won’t deliver what the club really needs," he cautioned.
Hearts of Oak remain unbeaten in seven Ghana Premier League matches this season but sit outside the top four after consecutive trophyless campaigns.
