Black Queens are set to suffer a major blow as head coach Nora Haüptle is close to taking over as the Copper Queens head coach, with Bruce Mwape set to be sacked, 3Sports understands.
Häuptle has been head coach of the Ghana women’s national team since 2023, after initially serving as the technical adviser.
She led the team to qualify for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time since 2018, after a remarkable run with the team.
But Zambia, who beat the Black Queens to eventually qualify for the 2024 Olympics, are set to replace coach Mwape, following a meeting by their Executive Committee. A two-year contract is expected to be offered to Häuptle after positive talks.
The 41-year-old Swiss tactician had been linked to the Copper Queens earlier in 2024, following an intense two-legged tie which ended in a narrow 4-3 aggregate win for the Southern African side.
Ghana have been placed in Group C of the 2024 WAFCON alongside current champions South Africa, Tanzania and Mali.
