SMT Ghana, a premium equipment distributor and aftersales partner for the mining and construction industries, in partnership with Rest Philanthropy and Volvo Trucks has donated shoes, books, and stationery to the Soliga and Pitanga primary schools located in the Nabdam district of northern Ghana.
The company has shown commitment towards supporting Ghana’s educational sector through its core values of caring, daring, and sharing that has served as a guide.
Road safety campaign
Furthermore, SMT Ghana provided pupils with Volvo Trucks’ training program “Stop, Look, Wave” for road safety. All staff members generously donated shoes for this event whilst SMT Ghana purchased more ensuring that most of the children had shoes to wear to school.
Mr. Jasper Agbakpe, Training Manager at SMT Ghana, a certified Volvo trainer for SMT Group, along with other officials of the company, taught the students the importance of road safety, especially when they are close to a truck.
Mrs. Hilda Peasah, Marketing and Communications Director of SMT Ghana, spoke about the company’s ESG goals. She highlighted that SMT Ghana seeks to make a positive change for others and foster communities linked to their value chain and for people in need. “The Volvo truck safety initiative, ‘Stop, Look,Wave’, is one of the ways in which SMT Ghana supports schools to train children in road safety”.
Mrs. Beatrice Oduro-Afranie, Human Resource Director of SMT Ghana, emphasized the importance of taking studies and road safety seriously and informed of SMT Ghana’s commitment to create a place that values compassion, teamwork, and social responsibility.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Pitanga school, the Headmistress, Madam Denicia Gbanaab, thanked SMT Ghana for what she described as a kind donation that will motivate and attract the kids to school.
She called on corporate Ghana and individuals to emulate the SMT Ghana example and lend a helping hand to those in need.
