YFM, Ghana’s leading urban radio station, joined the global fight against breast cancer, with various activities throughout the month of October. The brand put together an array of engaging activities, which were aimed at raising awareness, dispel myths and encourage breast screening.
Throughout the month of October, there were social media posts to sensitise and educate young people about the causes of breast cancer and preventive measures, with emphasis on the importance of regular screenings.
YFM presenters created informative videos to enlighten listeners about breast cancer risk factors, symptoms and the significance of early detection. The station hosted insightful discussions with healthcare professionals and breast cancer survivors, providing valuable information and personal stories.
The month culminated with a free breast cancer screening event at Legon City Mall on Friday, October 25, 2024. The event drew a large crowd of young women and men who prioritised their health and understood the life-saving potential of early detection.
Rev. Erskine, Deputy Programmes Manager at YFM, commented: “We are proud to have played a role in raising awareness about breast cancer. By educating our listeners and providing access to free screenings, we hope to empower individuals to take control of their health”.
He indicated that men suffer breast cancer as well and the myth that it is a disease for women only must be dispelled. He added that men having an understanding of breast cancer goes a long way for them to provide the required support to their spouses should they suffer that.
The event was sponsored by Ghandour Cosmetics, Glowic Skincare, Zohar Studio, Baron Auto, YTV, Legon City Mall, Palm Hills Mineral Water and MX24.
