Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola says the Cherries demand more from Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo, despite the 23-year-old’s terrific performance all season and his inspiring display against Manchester City at the weekend.
Semenyo was instrumental for the Cherries on Saturday as they ended Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the 2024/25 league season, claiming a 2-1 victory at Vitality Stadium.
Semenyo opened the scoring before Evanilson doubled the hosts’ lead, albeit Josko Gvardiol getting a late goal for the defending champions.
The win marks Bournemouth’s first-ever victory over Manchester City in the Premier League after losing all 14 previous encounters against the Cityzens.
Semenyo’s first-half strike also sent his season tally to four, in 10 games, a feat which sees him with the most strikes of any Bournemouth player thus far.
Despite scoring half of last season’s Premier League goals (4) in 23 lesser games, Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, believes Antoine Semenyo has more to offer.
“He has been playing very well all season. I think we demand a lot from him because I believe he can give a lot. He scored and everyone is giving him more recognition,” Andoni Iraola said in his post-game presser.
To Semenyo’s credit, he has been able to shoulder the responsibility of being Bournemouth’s main man since Dominic Solanke (last season’s top scorer) departed the club to Tottenham Hotspurs for a club-record -£55m- fee ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Bournemouth, currently in the top half of the table, face Brentford on Saturday as they look to solidify their place in the top half of the table before November’s international break.
