The weeklong activities for Ghana’s 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration are currently underway at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra, with an exciting lineup climaxing on Friday, November 8, 2024.
The final awards event will be held at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, Accra, starting at 4:00 p.m., where President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo will present the national award to the overall Best Farmer for 2024.
In an interview with TV3, the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Paul Siameh, revealed that this year, the Ministry has introduced a new approach. Unlike previous years, there will be no separate regional celebrations.
Instead, each region will select nominees for ten regional award categories, who will then travel to Accra to be honored at the national ceremony. During the awards night, Regional Ministers will personally present awards to winners from their respective regions.
“This is the 40th edition of Ghana’s National Farmers’ Day, a significant milestone in our nation’s recognition of farmers’ invaluable contributions to food security and economic growth. We look forward to a memorable celebration as we gather to honor these individuals who play a vital role in sustaining our communities,” Mr. Siameh shared.
The opening day of the event featured a vibrant exhibition of food items, with farmers from all over the country displaying a wide array of fresh produce, traditional staples, and innovative farming products. Attendees have the opportunity to explore Ghana’s agricultural diversity and witness the impressive yields that local farmers have cultivated over the past year.
With the Greater Accra Region hosting the milestone 40th edition, National Farmers’ Day aims to celebrate and reward the dedication of farmers who contribute tirelessly to Ghana’s agricultural sector, highlighting their role in advancing food security, rural development, and national economic growth.
The national celebration promises to be an inspiring evening that showcases the resilience and innovation of Ghanaian farmers, as well as the government’s ongoing commitment to agricultural development.
