Amansie Central District in the Ashanti region, a farming district has recorded low farm produce due to deplorable road network in the district.
Farmers are not able to transport farm produce to the market due to the deplorable road network in the district.
The poor state of roads in the District is a major hindrance to the economic development of the area.
The farmers speaking to Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the district noted for food production in the country are faced with poor road network which makes it difficult for vehicles to go to remote areas to convey foodstuffs to the market for sale.
According to the farmers, the unmotorable state of the roads has resulted in several losses as a result of the difficulties and challenges they go through to cart food produce and goods to surrounding market centres.
However, residents in some villages in the District such as Abuakwaa, Fiankoma, Abuntunsu have expressed worry about the high rate of pregnant women who lost their lives due to the bad nature of their roads.
The areas have also recorded many accidents due to the poor nature of the roads.
According to the residents, the situation gets worse during the rainy season as the road becomes very unmotorable compelling people to trek long distances.
Some women in the area also said it’s always a nightmare for pregnant women as they suffer during delivery due to the bad road network.
Meanwhile, the Odotobri 1st Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Osei Bonsu Bempah speaking in an interview with Abusua FM’s Nana Ama Annor admitted that bad road network is affecting economic activities within the district.
Nana Osei Bonsu Bempah however appealed to government, Ministry of Roads to reward the district with Cocoa Roads Projects saying the district voted massively for the NPP during the December 2016 general elections.
“When you go to Western Region, President Akufo- Addo during his 3-day tour in the region announced massive road development for the region. We are appealing to President Akufo-Addo to come to our aid by fixing our deplorable roads in the district. I strongly believe that President Akufo- Addo who is a listening President will not turn his back on us,” he said.
