The Christian Service University College (CSUC) located at Odeneho Kwadaso in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi has pushed its frontiers by opening its first campus in the Brong Ahafo Regional Capital Sunyani.
The university on Saturday officially admitted its first Sunyani intake as part of a hundred and eighty students who were matriculated into its January parallel stream.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador on the sidelines of the matriculation, the President of CSUC Professor Samuel Afrane pointed out that the university is adopting a hybrid system of both face to face and e-learning platforms to offer tuition to the students.
Professor Afrane indicated that it was about time Universities in Ghana harnessed information technology to reach more students and expand the scope of their operations.
He insisted, “We live in an information technology world where distance should not be a barrier and we must also know that not everybody can come to the campus everyday to learn but through the internet people can study where ever they are and write their exams and pass.
“Sunyani is our first stop where students are joining us on the electronic platform where they can listen to their lecturer live and also read their materials electronically and follow their lessons. We are starting face to face and then gradually move into the electronic phase,” he added.
The matriculation ceremony also constituted students in the Health and Allied Sciences, the Business School and the Faculty of Humanities.
The students will be pursuing courses leading to the awards of BSc Nursing, BSc Information Technology, Bsc Computer Science, BA Planning and Development, BA Theology with administration, and BA Communications.
Moodle
The non denominational evangelical university now uses a very interactive and user friendly platform code named “Moodle” for more than half of the courses offered on campus.
The platform which has revolutionized learning in CSUC allows Students with the right passwords and user names, to access course outlines, notes, lectures, assignments and projects electronically.
The Christian Service University College has also set up an audio and video studio and has already begun piloting a full rollout of E-learning programs to offer opportunity to students who cannot visit the physical campus for lectures.
President of the Christian Service University College Professor Samuel Afrane told Ultimate News, “The initiatives are part of the top notch level of pedagogy CSUC has embraced to reach the upper end of the 21st century mode of teaching and learning.
New Programs
The Christian Service University College is in August 2018, introducing a one year masters program in Corporate Planning to enhance the planning divisions of corporate institutions including banks, insurance companies, hospitals, media institutions and government institutions
This will add up to the university’s innovative consumer driven portfolio of Post Graduate Masters programs in Monitoring and evaluation, MSc Accounting and Finance and MA Christian Ministry and Management.
In the same month, a new faculty of education is taking off with two courses in Early Childhood Education and Basic education to fill the wide professional gap in providing the trained staff Ghana needs to run kindergartens and basic schools.
