The ongoing New Patriotic Party constituency elections in the Central region is producing interesting results as all 10 executives in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) in the Central have lost their bid to retain their positions.
All the old executives have lost to their opponents by a minimum of 100 votes difference.
The results have been interpreted by many political watchers as indicted on the performance of the executive in the last 8 years as majority of the executives have served two terms in office especially those superintending over the party’s loss in the constituency in the last election as Samuel Atta Mills of the NDC snatched the seat from NPP candidate Dr. Stephen Nana Ato Arthur.
What has even made the case more interesting is the fact that all the defeated executives are close allies of the former MP for the area Dr. Stephen Nana Ato Arthur who doubles as the head of the local government service.
Dr. Ato Arthur in his last two bids to Parliament stood unopposed on the ticket of the party largely due to the influence of the said executive to the annoyance of many in the area who really wanted to contest but were impeded from contesting.
Many have touted the eventual defeat of the executive of the beginning of the end of the political reign of Dr. Stephen Ato Arthur’s dominance in the area rising from a district chief executive to become regional minister and Member of Parliament for the KEEA.
The new chairman for the party in the constituency Andrew Essuman Prah promises to bring all camps on board to help cling another victory for the party in 2020.
The losers, he added will be helped to offset some of the cost they incurred during their campaign while the former MP Dr. Ato Arthur will be supported if he wants to contest again as MP as he is their best option come 2020.
