A former Municipal Chief Executive Officer and worker for the Ashanti Regional campaign team of the former President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that his team has begun reviewing the 2016 manifesto of the NDC to craft a selling message for the ‘JDM 2020 campaign’.
Disclosing this to Ultimate News, the campaign executive of the former President Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi popularly called ‘Zuba’ indicated on authority that Mr Mahama will be standing for the 2020 flagbearership race of the National Democratic Congress when nominations open.
He insisted, “I am a worker for the former President and I can say on authority that if the party opens nominations he is going to contest but once the party has not opened nominations for anyone to contest, we should allow the playing field to be even.”
His assertion comes on the back of a recent call by ten chairmen of the party for Mr Mahama to declare his decision to lead the party into the 2020 national elections.
The position of the chairmen has been widely criticized as premature and divisive.
The office of the former President subsequently released a response insisting that Mr Mahama did not see it fit to make his intentions clear immediately.
Disclosing the current operations of the former President’s campaign team, Mr Ofori Agyeman Boadi divulged that the camp of the former President has taken a cue from the ruling NPP’s campaign strategies and is adopting a renewed way of repackaging and selling the messages in the John Dramani Mahama campaign manifesto ahead of the elections.
He told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “Remember we didn’t loose the 2016 elections because we had a bad candidate but there are a lot of things that we didn’t do right.”
“For instance every national election is about the future and I believe that when Ghanaians were looking at the prospects between 2017 and 2021, the NPP was able to market their programmes. So what we should be doing at this time is to be thinking about alternatives that resonates with the electorates,” he said.
“There were a lot of fine things that we had in our manifesto for 2016. We are looking at how many will be relevant for the 2020 elections,” he noted.
