The Manager of the Ashanti Regional office of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Sam Kwatia has dispelled claims that they attacked workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Thursday.
Workers of the state broadcaster allegedly assaulted staff of the electricity company when they visited their premises at Dadiesoabo in Kumasi to retrieve an accumulated GH¢1.7 million owed them.
The Public Relations Officer of ECG Erasmus Kyere Baidoo accused staff of GBC of deflating their vehicle tyres.
But speaking on GHOne News, the Manager of GBC denied the allegation accusing ECG staff of trespassing their compound without any prior notice.
Mr. Kwatia is asking management of ECG to apologise to them for unlawful entry else they will file a law suit against them.
‘Unfortunately nobody attacked ECG staff, I don’t even think there was any heckling. Previously, they came and discounted our power supply, and so I was told they had been here again. This time when they came, they drove to the generator side as if they were looking for criminals…I went to them, but they refused to utter a word, so I warned to take their vehicles out because that place is a restricted area.
‘One of them told me that they are there on a purpose, so I told them that I will deflate their tyres and charge them for trespassing, because they were becoming difficult to deal with… They went beyond bounds which is an offence,’ he stated.
Mr Kwatia indicated that they wouldn’t have prevented ECG staff from discounting their power if they had informed them saying the disconnection has been a ritual.
He attributed their inability to settle their debt to slow pace of business saying managers at GBC head office are working around the clock to pay the debt.
Power supply has been cut off at GBC but they are currently running on a generator.
ECG officials and GBC management met at the police station to solve the matter.
