The proposed presidential debate involving the presidential nominees of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) slated for Tamale on November 8 has been dealt a devastating blow.
There are lingering doubts if the two parties will attend the event with functionaries explicitly stating that they will not be part of the exercise ultimatefmonline.com can exclusively inform.
On Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra, the NPP panelist stated categorically that there is no way Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo will be part of the event.
He rather directed President John Dramani Mahama to debate with the citizenry and persons affected by his mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy.
The event which is spearheaded by Think Tank the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), was supposed to pave the way for the leaders of the two parties to unveil their policies and programmes for the electorate ahead of December 7 polls.
The supposed debate between Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and John Dramani Mahama would have preceded a similar one for Vice-Presidential candidates slated for November 15, 2016 at the Best Western Hotel in Takoradi to be rounded up by the second and final Presidential debate in Accra on November 22, 2016.
According to IEA’s Executive Director, Jean Mensah, the presidential candidate of the governing NDC, President John Mahama will battle presidential candidates of the NPP; Nana Akufo-Addo, Convention People’s Party’s (CPP) Ivor Greenstreet; Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Papa Kwesi Nduom, and the Independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah and they are yet to confirm their participation.
