Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, the Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, has revealed his desire to align with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 9th Parliament.
The Ghanaian hiplife artist-turned-politician stated that while his heart leans toward the NDC, he is open to working with any party that prioritises his interests and the needs of his constituents.
In a Facebook post, A-Plus disclosed that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had approached him with a proposal to align with the NPP in Parliament.
The NPP, led by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has officially approached me to discuss aligning with them in Parliament. Their proposal includes several intriguing agreements, such as a commitment not to contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 election.
Despite the NPP’s overtures, A-Plus maintained that his preference is to align with the NDC, though he remains open to negotiating the best deal for himself and his constituency.
The NDC, with whom I genuinely wish to align, has also invited me for a meeting tomorrow at 8 a.m. While I have friends in both the NDC and NPP, they have to understand that I will have to disappoint someone tomorrow. Let me make this simple and clear: deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central.
NPP denies claims of meeting A-Plus
Meanwhile, in a press release dated January 6, 2024, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, refuted A-Plus’s claim that the party had approached him for alignment talks.
The NPP has not met with A-Plus, nor has it authorised anyone to convey any message to him on its behalf.
