Black Galaxies coach Kassim Mingle has defended his decision to exclude Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare from the squad to face South Africa, insisting the shot-stopper has already earned his place at senior level.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Mingle made it clear that Asare no longer needs to be assessed at the Black Galaxies level following his rise to the Black Stars.
“There’s no reason to keep calling up Benjamin Asare to the Black Galaxies when he already has a spot in the Black Stars and has justified himself at that level. It doesn’t make sense to invite him to the Galaxies again just to 'justify' himself,” Mingle said.
Asare was left out of the squad travelling to face Bafana Bafana, who are using the friendly as part of their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The goalkeeper has missed Hearts of Oak’s last four matches due to injury but remains highly regarded after his performances for Ghana’s senior national team, where he played a key role in helping the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
