British stocks closed down on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.21 percent, or 15.46 points, to close at 7,511.87 points.
Johnson Matthey, a British multinational speciality chemicals and sustainable technologies company, soared 2.04 percent, becoming the top gainer of the blue chips. Royal Dutch Shell B and Tesco increased by 1.56 percent and 1.49 percent, respectively.
Mexican-based precious metals mining company Fresnillo was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.87 percent.
