Real Madrid lost even more ground on Barcelona at the top of La Liga as they suffered a damaging home defeat to Real Sociedad.
The gap between Santiago Solari’s side and the pace-setters at the top of the table now stands at seven points, with Barca holding a game in-hand over their rivals. This was the evening Real Madrid effectively conceded any hope of winning the title.
It took Real Sociedad just three minutes to take the lead, with Willian Jose converting a penalty kick following a foul by Casemiro on Mikel Merino in the box. That set the tone for what would be a dismal display by Real Madrid.
Lucas Vazquez was shown a second yellow card on the hour mark, with Real Sociedad making the most of their man advantage to score a second goal as Ruben Pardo headed home from an Adnan Januzaj cross into the box.
