Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has revealed that he was rejected by a host of clubs during his early years in football including Chelsea and Arsenal.
Bournemouth’s second-highest scorer this season has revealed that he was rejected by the youth academies of top clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal.
“I think I went to Millwall four times, went to Tottenham, went to Arsenal, went to Chelsea, I went to so many clubs and I just got the same result: never making it. I remember Palace being the last place being rejected,” Semenyo said in an interview with SuperSport.
The Black Stars forward further disclosed that he almost gave up as a result as it appeared ‘too much’ to bear.
“Being so young I couldn’t really cop with the emotions of rejection I was like, I felt like I need to take a break, go back to friends, go back to school just focus and recuperate, give myself a year to calm myself down cause I felt like the rejection was so much.”
Despite the setbacks early on in his career, Semenyo admitted that it went a long way into shaping his mentality and character, which he plays with today.
