A Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame has disclosed that more lawyers have been employed for the Office of the Attorney General.
This is to augment the current staff strength and improve performance, make the Office more vibrant and help in the dispensation of justice.
“For a long time, no new attorney had been recruited into the Attorney General’s Office. This year, significantly, 50 attorneys have been recruited to the Attorney General’s Office.
“They were given their letters of appointment only about a month ago and that is a very significant step to boosting the Attorney General’s Office,” Mr Dame added.
He was speaking at Joy FM’s Scorecard programme held in Accra on Monday. The programme was aimed at assessing the 23-months of the Akufo-Addo-led administration since it took office.
Earlier this year, the Attorney General’s Office was given clearance to employ more staff after the Attorney General Gloria Akuffo complained about the lack of adequate staff.
She said the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Department needs 600 staff members to operate well but it had been operating with only 300, a situation which posed a challenge to its operations.
She said her Ministry made a case for more staff to be recruited but the Ministry of Finance gave financial clearance for only 50 staff to be recruited adding 200 people applied to be recruited out of which 50 were being considered for recruitment.
That recruitment, Mr Dame says has taken place.
