The Sheikh Abdullah Maikano Charity Foundation (SAMCF) has condemned an attack on some Muslim youth believed to be from the Tijjaniyya sect a couple of weeks ago.
The youth had gathered in front of a mosque after Friday prayers when they were attacked by some other Muslim youth who accused them of making uncomplimentary remarks about the chief Imam.
In a statement chronicling similar attacks on the sect, the SAMCF said “we at the SAMCF have been watching with great concern how silent our national leaders from across the socio-political space have remained.
“Our fear is that our youths, ie the Jallo youth have an amazing mobilization power and if care is not taken, one of these days we may have a security crisis on our hands.”
The group concluded their statement by expressing disappointment at “the ineptitude of our so-called Muslim Leaders/ elders to get to understand the real issues being raised by his Eminence Mawlana Sheikh Ahmad Abul-Faid Maikano (R) and tackle it head-on.”
Below is a copy of the full statement:
We at the Sheikh Abdullah Maikano Charity Foundation (SAMCF) wish to condemn the recent attacks on Tijjaniyya youths associated with His Eminence Mawlana Sheikh Abdullah Maikano (R) affectionately called Jallo(R).
We have observed the recent spate of brutal attacks on a congregation of unarmed Tijjaniyya Muslims who were observing the wazeefa (one of the daily Litanies) in a masjid in Sabon Zongo, one of the suburbs in Accra. This was followed with another attack on an Imam (Alhaji Toure), who was on his way to lead prayers in a local mosque again in Nima. A third attack happened in Darkuman, Accra where some lovers of the Jallo fraternity were attacked with machetes leaving some among them with severe injuries. The perpetrators of these attack made a video of one of the incidents which is making rounds on social media. Fortunately for the law enforcement agencies, these criminals are known people surprisingly, they have gotten away with this crime without being reprimanded whatsoever.
The SAMCF is a duly registered Non-Governmental Organization and operates mainly in the Northern belt of the country. We are the Umbrella Organization for all youth organizations associated with the spiritual guardianship of the Grand Successor of Sheikh Abdullah Maikano Jallo(R), His Eminence, Sheikh Ahmad Abul-Faid Maikano (R) affectionately called Khalifa.
Not long ago, same dastardly acts were perpetrated in Accra and Kumasi on the same group of Tijjaniyya scholars, elders, and youths. Where some Mallams were attacked in the presence of their family and students in Asokore, Kumasi and other places.
We wish to draw attention to how the Venerable Sheikh Abdullah Maikano (R) himself was a victim of several assassination attempts which saw several close associates of his meeting their untimely deaths. It appears as though the people who conspired and plotted the several attempts on the life of the Founder of the Tijjaniyya Muslims Council, Sheikh Abdullah Maikano Jallo (R) have resurfaced and perhaps are not comfortable with the increase in the followership of Jallo more than a decade after his demise. They should have realized by now that nobody has the power to undo whatever has been pre-destined by Allah in the affairs of Jallo and surrender to what Allah wills.
We at the SAMCF have been watching with great concern how silent our national leaders from across the socio-political space have remained. Our fear is that our youths, ie the Jallo youth have an amazing mobilization power and if care is not taken, one of these days we may have a security crisis on our hands.
We wish to indicate that the Jallo followership constitutes that the majority of any single Muslim group or fraternity in the country. We are the only Muslim group in the Ghana which congregates annually with the intention of reciting the Holy Quran with the intention of asking Almighty Allah to sustain the Peace the country enjoys continually. This is the reason why the Jallo youth have heeded to calls from their Leadership to remain calm. It should be noted that they are only calm, but they have the capacity and tenacity to face their adversaries boot for boot if the leaders from the other camp and other well-meaning people including the Police and other law enforcement agencies do not intervene.
The SAMCF has cited reports from some bloggers, and have seen videos of some individuals purporting to be Islamic leaders who purportedly gathered in the Abossey Okai Central Mosque and organized a Press briefing to announce that they have banned all Mawlid gatherings under the spiritual guardianship of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Council led by His Eminence Mawlana Sheikh Ahmad Abul-Faid Maikano (R).
The SAMCF wishes to laugh away this wishful outbursts and call on the Jallo youth that they should ignore that announcement and continue to heed to the guidance of His Eminence Mawlana Sheikh Abul-Faid Maikano (R). That, the Abossey Okai Central Mosque where that purported meeting took place is not a courtroom. And that, it is only a court of competent jurisdiction that can make such a call.
We are shocked by the ineptitude of our so-called Muslim Leaders/ elders to get to understand the real issues being raised by his Eminence Mawlana Sheikh Ahmad Abul-Faid Maikano (R) and tackle it head-on.
By this statement, the SAMCF wishes to commend the Jallo youth in Accra and other parts of the country for their calm disposition and continuously keeping faith with their leaders.
In conclusion, we wish to remind all and sundry that this year's Mawlid of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjaniyya which is commemorated annually in Prang will come off on the 20th October 2018 which is 2 weeks away. Let’s meet there to show the whole world how formidable we are.
Long Live Mawlana Sheikh Abdullah Maikano Jallo (R)!! Long Live Mawlana Sheikh Ahmad Abul-Faid Maikano (R) !! Long Live the Entire Household!! Long live Ghana!!

Baraka Amanu Maikano – President SAMCF
