Government has begun a move to have a representation on the council for the International Telecommunication Union (ICU), the highest decision making body for the telecom industry.
The formal request by the country was made through the Ministry of Communications to the forum.
Deputy Minister of Communications, George Nenyi Andah disclosed this during the closing ceremony for the ITU Africa Regional Development Forum in Accra which ended last week.
He used called on other African nations to support Ghana to get the nod to be on the highest decision body of the ITU.
The three days forum offered participating countries the platform to effectively collaborate in order to reap the full benefits of the digital economy for Africa.
During the forum, there were breakout sessions which focused on the Regional Initiatives. Some of the initiatives include building digital economies and fostering innovation in Africa Promotion of emerging broadband technologies,
It also focused on building trust and security. This initiative will see to capacity building and monitoring of the radio-frequency spectrum and transition to digital broadcasting, regional Organizations perspectives among others.
Mr Andah urged participating countries to provide support and best practices to each other for Africa to have a strong front in the digital space.
“For us in Ghana, we will put together a working group made up of all stakeholders, government, regulator, the private sector and academia among others to critically review the various projects and determine how to adapt and implement it," he said.
According to him, the country will continue its digital agenda and move towards the achievements of the SDGs.
