Unique Child Academy, a private basic education institution based at Haatso a suburb of Accra, has launched a new sports program that seeks to expose the children to various sports disciplines and nurture them to realize their full potential.
The initiative is under the school's “improving the Academic life of the Pupil Through Sports" campaign.
From next term, the school will engage professional sportsmen to train them and also identify pupils' interest and talents in the various disciplines.
The program was launched when the children embarked on an excursion at Legon Botanical Gardens to mark the end of the school ’s first academic term in 2018.
The event which was a major sporting activity on the school’s annual timetable was dubbed, "Unique Child Academy Sports Fiesta".
The event saw the children engaging in various sporting activities such as football, sack race, brisk walk competition and ampe was sponsored by Fan Milk Ghana Limited.
A ceremonial football match saw the boys displaying their distinctive football skills, amidst cheers from their parents and colleagues.
Speaking at the event, Proprietress of the school, Madam Cecilia Boateng Mensah, said the wellbeing of pupils has been her school’s priority since inception.
According to her, a healthy pupil can achieve the highest results in life as that places them in superior physical and mental health.
She noted that parents and teachers need to work hand in hand to identify new ways to assist the children in the management of the stress associated with academic work.
"Even the most brilliant pupil at a point needs a break to refresh as the saying goes 'all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy," said Madam Boateng Mensah.
She said It was for that reason that her school organised the Sports Fiesta.
She explained that introduction of sports confirms the school’s belief in the need for exercise, relieving stress, refreshment, entertainment for the achievement of academic objectives.
