The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has agreed with President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that misunderstandings in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caused its defeat in the 2016 elections.
The president in his speech at the extraordinary delegates conference of the NPP in Kumasi Sunday, said that the internal wranglings in the NDC helped to propel the NPP to victory.
"...The conflicts between the Rawlings elements, the Mills elements and the Mahama elements of the party helped us to our victory", he said.

“I agree with him in part because I don’t think it was fighting…disagreements may be the right word to use”, Suhuyini told Joy News TV’s AM Show host Ronald Walker on Monday.
He added that “fighting was what was going on in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)”.
The NDC MP added that President Akufo-Addo vindicated the NDC of all the claims that it was corruption and incompetence that led to its monumental defeat.
“Those who doubted why we lost can now hear it from the President, it wasn’t about incompetence, it wasn’t about corruption but about disagreements”, he stated.
He lamented that he feels sorry for the NDC faithful that fell victim to the disagreements and were coerced into helping the NPP wrestle power from the then governing NDC.
“I feel sorry for the NDC folks for playing into the scheme of disagreements and enjoyed the solidarity of the NPP and helped them to undermine the NDC further because their solidarity was just based on the desire to remove your party”, he said.
He also claimed that the NPP is doing 1000 times, what they accused the NDC of, during the electioneering campaigns.
He said the NDC took conscious efforts to expose the corrupt practices in their government but the incumbent NPP is covering up its corrupt practices just some 11 months in office.
