Veterinary doctors at the Kotoka International Airport say they have destroyed crates of fertilised geese eggs imported into the country by Chinese nationals recently without the necessary permit.
The eggs, parked in three separate suitcases, had no proper documentation covering them.
Dr. Darlington Owusu who supervised the destruction told Joy News the birds could not be allowed into the country because it was suspected to be infected with bird flu.
“First of all, they are coming from China and they are geese...birds that can have bird flu but will not show any signs. They can spread the disease but they themselves will not die of it.â€
Since bird flu is endemic in China, so even if they seek permit to import such birds from there “we will not give them the permitâ€.
