The founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings also a former ex-First Lady, has accused the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) of sleeping on its mandate.
She says the Commission is not doing what the taxpayers pay it to do, which is to educate the public on national issues.
According to the former First Lady, women at the various marketplaces are naïve about the lockdown for instance, and she believed the NCCE could move into markets and other public places to educate the people.
Mrs Rawlings was speaking at Jubilee House yesterday during a meeting between President Akufo-Addo and political party leaders on how the country could win the fight against the Coronavirus.
She recounted her ordeal with a market woman in Accra, and concluded that such people needed education on the lockdown and other precautionary measures.
“The NCCE, I think, have been sleeping for so long. We are paying them with taxpayer’s money, and really, they should do the work they are put there to do.
“They should go to the markets and talk on their systems, so that the women will understand what is going on,” she added.
