The Bono Region for the fourth consecutive time won the first position in membership enrolment of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) since 2018.
Speaking at a media briefing here in Sunyani on Friday, to mark the 20th anniversary celebrations of NHIS, Mr Joseph Mensah, Bono Regional Director of NHIS, said the scheme registered 1,151,648 persons in October 2023 against its target of 956,389.
He said the figure surpassed the national enrolment figure of 55 per cent of the 17.2 million national membership.
The achievement, he said, placed the Bono Region top of the 16 regions, to attain the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) target in 2030.
Mr Mensah added that management would use innovative measures including the newly introduced mobile renewal application code *929#, MyNHIS app to increase enrollment.
Mr Mensah said the region was poised to achieving 90 per cent membership registration target for 2024.
He appealed to the media to collaborate with the scheme to address the issue of co-payment practice where accredited healthcare providers were extorting moneys from innocent NHS card bearers.
Mr Mensah commended the staff for their dedication to duty over the years which he said enabled the scheme to achieve its objectives.
As part of the celebration, the regional office of NHIS organised a blood donation exercise to stock the Sunyani Teaching Hospital blood bank.
