The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru West, Mr David Manu, has commended the efforts of security officers in his district for working to improve the security situation in the area.
Mr Manu made the disclosure yesterday in an interview with the Ghanaian Times on the security situation of the district at Prang in the Bono East Region.
The DCE said the situation in the district was relatively calm, saying that this can be attributed to the presence of officers in uniform patrolling our area on 24-hour basis.
“Residents of the Pru West District can testify that the performance of the officers, especially night patrols have ensured that evil deeds were nipped in the bud,” Mr Manu told the Ghanaian Times.
He was happy to note that incessant armed robbery attacks, kidnapping incidents, assault cases among others which deprived commuters of their valuables and sometimes loss of lives on our roads, were now things of the past.
The DCE expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, through the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Adu Gyan, for deploying additional 36 security personnel to improve the security situation in the area.
Mr Manu said in order to ensure proper coverage of the area, 17 officers were stationed at Prang, the district capital, nine at Abease and 10 at Zabrama, adding that achieving an enhanced security was a shared responsibility.
“I have charged all Assembly Members to sensitise residents on the need to honour their tax obligations in order to increase the revenue base of the district for expenses on security,” he told the Ghanaian Times.
The DCE emphasised that the daily upkeep of the security officers comes with a cost saying that the Assembly spends over GH 7,000 weekly for the operations and upkeep of the officers.
He noted that the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) of the District Assembly per week also stood at GH 4,000 adding that the district always runs on shortage of funds, which affects the daily administration of the Assembly.
Mr Manu was optimistic that when residents of Pru West District pay their property rates, fees, fines and tolls, it would complement the few sources of funds of the assembly to develop the area.
The DCE implored the general public to strictly adhere to the safety protocol of COVID – 19 until the country records a zero case saying that “we are not out of the woods”.
