The Late Rosemary Ametepe
One of Ghana’s only two licensed female boxing referees, Rosemary Ametepe has been reported dead at the age of 46.
Madam Ametepe was attached to the Ghana Prison Service and contributed immensely to building the current formidable boxing team of the Service.
Also a staunch member of the amateur referees in the country, Mad. Ametepe, until her death, was a regular referee in events of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) and was an executive member in the current administration.
GBF President, George Lamptey told the Times Sports her death was a big blow for Ghana’s boxing industry where she worked as the welfare officer of the female Black Bombers.
“She was an experienced amateur referee /judge and officiated in so many fights. She helped in the development and promotion of boxing and played a key role in establishing female boxing in the country,”
Mad. Ametepe was the third high profile boxing official to have passed on in January, 2019.
Her death followed previous departures into eternal glory of the experienced boxing trainers Yusuf Issaka (January 21) and Ben Tawiah (January 29), a former national light middleweight champion and a coach with the Seconds Out gym in Accra. He was 63.
The two have since been buried according to Muslim tradition.
