Works on the multipurpose youth sports centers being constructed at Ho in the Volta region and Koforidua in the Eastern region are over 60 and 70 percent completed, respectively, according to contractors.
This came to light on Tuesday when the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, began the nationwide inspection of the facilities, starting with the Ho and Koforidua centres.
With three months left for the construction of the facility which was scheduled to be completed within nine months with, contractors were optimistic of completing the project on time, adding that, the most difficult parts of the work has been done.
At the two centres, most of the stands were ready.
Ground works for the pitch have also been completed with washrooms and other facilities well placed except for some patches.
The obvious works left to be done are the leveling and completion of the pitch as well as fencing.
Mr. Asiamah after inspecting works on the sports centers was pleased with the level of work done as well as the efforts of the contractors to meet deadline.
“They are doing an excellent job with the level of transformation brought to the area which hitherto was a very bushy area with trees all over, “he stated.
He was certain that the project would be completed on time to serve its intended purposes.
He disclosed that the contractor at Ho, Torgbui Gbewoaza of Wilkado Constructions Limited faced a challenge with the heavy rains but managed to do a quality work and was determined to complete by February.
“They also have no issues with funds as we always make money available for the project which is geared towards the development of the youth in Ghana, “he stated.
In case there would be the need to extend the deadline for completion, he said, contractors will write to the Ministry to seek approval.
“I am very certain that, by February all the projects would be completed and ready to be used across the country,” he stated.
The consultant for the project, Joe Hackman said contractors are closely monitored to ensure that they do the job to perfection.
In all, 10 multipurpose sports centers to house a football pitch, tennis and basketball court, an ICT Center, restaurant and other facilities are being constructed across the 10 regions of the country.
