Some women groups in 19 communities in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region have heaped praises on ActionAid, a non-governmental organisation, for promoting their well-being through its Promoting Opportunities for Women Empowerment Right (POWER) Project in the area.
The POWER Project, a five-year programme being implemented in Tain and Asutifi districts of the Brong Ahafo Region, and the three northern regions to promote welfare of vulnerable women groups in those communities is being funded by the Dutch government.
About 1600 in the two communities are receiving training in simple farming technology to improve their activities as well as violence against women and girls and other economic activities for sustainable livelihoods.
As part of the project, ActionAid was also promoting unpaid care work campaign aimed at ensuring that partners of these women support them in domestic chores to enable them engage in other economic ventures.
During a field visit to Badu Drobo, a beneficiary community in the Tain District, some of the women shared their experiences with the media.
Faustina Libea, a farmer, said hitherto, their husbands do not see the need to support them in domestic chores, but due to the awareness they received from Action Aid with their husbands, it had improved their relationship.
Mohammed Musah, a farmer, told the journalists that the support they give to their wives had improved their lives, and entreated other men to follow suit.
The Regional Director of Action Aid, Tontie Binado, appealed for sustenance of the campaign, so as to improve the life of people in rural communities.
