The FIFA Normalisation Committee and the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) will soon commence work towards the development of a football competition with the aim of getting footballers and its related staff busy.
However, details of the competition regarding the format, clubs and which divisions it would stretch to cover are currently unknown but will soon be announced.
The decision was as a result of a meeting between the two bodies at the Citizen Kofi House in Accra on Wednesday.
The meeting was occasioned by the committee’s resolve to interact with all major stakeholders and solicit ideas from major players as they seek to introduce reforms into the game within the mandate given them by FIFA.
Wednesday’ meeting was held behind closed doors but a brief statement signed by Mrs Lucy Quist for the Normalisation Committee and Cudjoe Fianoo for GHALCA clearly spelt out some of the agenda discussed.
According to the statement, the decision to come up with an ad hoc competition followed the meeting’s recognition for the need for football activities to resume in the immediate future.
The two parties also discussed extensively about the welfare of players plying their trade on the local scene.
It said there was also a commitment from both parties to ensure the game returns soon with more excitement and professionalism.
The Normalisation Committee was represented by its vice- chairperson, Mrs Lucy Quist and members Mr Dua Adonteng and Naa Odofoley Nortey.
GHALCA was represented by its president Kojo Fianoo, vice- chairman Alex Ackumey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko, George Amoako as well as its Public Relations Officer (PRO) Otuo Acheampong among others.
The Normalisation Committee also met staff of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at the same venue to discuss issues pertaining to their welfare.
GHALCA Chairman Kojo Fianoo told the media the meeting was a good sign towards the return of soccer in the country, adding that, it was a step in the right direction.
“We are the industry players and the Normalisation Committee are the regulators, it’s important that we met because we’ve had very fruitful discussions.”
He indicated that the clubs are yearning for the return of the league and the discussions with the committee proved both parties were on the same path.
He thanked the committee for extending an invitation to the association, reiterating the commitment of the two parties to the early resumption of football in the country.
